I have just bought an '03 1500HD crew cab 2wd, which is a GREAT truck. My buddy at work has an '01 F150 crew cab 2wd. We got to taking about towing capacities, I traded my '02 Chevy 1500 for more towing. Anyway his is rated at 8600lbs, according to his manual. The new '03's are not rated but at 7900 with 4x2 and crew cab. Mine is rated at 8200lbs. with the 3.73's

I guess I was just surprised that the specs were so close. I would have thought that by it being a "HD" it would be further up the scale. The HD is considerably stronger than the regular 1500.


Oh well, anyone ever even looked at this besides me?

 

If hes trying to give some bid that his Ford is better then your chevy HD, tell him to stop kidding himself. He has a F150 with 6 lug wheels a much weaker 3rd member then a 14 bolt, none the less Ford truck engines are behind on power 5.4 in F250s is pathetically slow. The only thing other people at my work can out do me on is I have IFS, and to that I challenged the dudes V10 dodge 2500 to a race and he said maybe later.....

According to the specs 4.8 posted, your buddies crew cab F150 is only rated to 8000. He is reading the wrong column in his manual. That and you could beat him anywhere and have time to stop for lunch. :p

 

i used to have a '02 1500 ext cab with the 4.8 V8 and beat his anyway we tried, he eventually gave up. Anyway how this came up was he asked me what the towing capacity was and then he checked his. I would like to see him hook up 8000 to his. I would be more than happy to follow him and give him a tow home.

There is NO WAY I would think about having his F150. I have riden in it and to me, there is no comparison.

We are going to pull our 30' camper to Disney in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to try it out.
