Default 10w30 vs. 5w30

i remember seeing someone say that 10w-30 was better for our trucks because of the short piston skirts. i dont remember who it was during a search, but it caught my eye.

would it be a better idea for me to run 10w-30? would the engine be benifited in anyway being as i live in southern CA where its never cold...........

thanks

In the black truck I would get some valve clatter with 5-30, 10-30 solved it.

hmm i would like to quiet my valves down.

i guess i was wondering if 10w-30 would be bad in anyway. but then it hit me. if the motor was made to use 30w oil, then either 5w or 10w should work in it cause 5w30 and 10w30 act the same except for when cold right?

I thought the lower weight had to do with when the motor is hot. I was thinking that the higher the weight, the thicker it was. Why would it get thicker when it was hot? That make sense ???

the w means winter. The lower the winter number the better the flow in cold weather,I use 10w-30 year round though usin amsoil.Even though it gets in the 40's and 30's in the winter here I still use the 10w-30 amsoil,I flows fine in this weather,if it was below 0 then I would consider usin the 5w-30.
