Default 1/4 ET due to?

I was wondering why I am getting decent ET's for such a heavy truck and want to compare it to some of your set-ups.

First off my times are via G-Tech but I have used this one for 4+ years now and it has always been very accurate on all my cars that do see track time (not MPH) as long as you are on level roads and zero the thing out properly.

I generally avg. 15.5 with a range of 15.3-15.7 depending on how I shift and if I short shift or tag the limiter.

What I noticed is when I get those 15.4's I never hit 3rd gear before the run is over. I am running the complete 1/4 mile with only 2 gears. If I short shift or let the truck shift I hit 3rd right before the end of the run and my ET jumps to 15.9-16.2.

Do the rest o fyou run the 1/4 in 2nd also?

What are you guys setting your shift points too (rpm wise) when using an HPP3 or Edit? I will eventually have Edit for the truck and will set the limiter higher so I don't tag anymore but I would like to know themax rpm you stocker guys are shifting at.

My truck is basically stock with a cheapo muffler, and a K&N filter in a modified stock housing and I cut the air silencer tube off the intake arm, 3.73 gears.

those times don't seem right. i have a 99 so it is a little slower but bone stock it ran a 16.7 and then with just the whipple(came with k+n and stat) i was runing around 15.3

if your really running those times i'd like to know why your so fast.

Have you weighed the truck? (For the Gtech) Those are good times, but you should really take your Gtech to the track and see if it is accurate.

I have used this GTech for years on all kinds of different cars and it has always been very accurate (within a few tenths) on each car when used right. I used it on my Vette recently before I went to the track with it and I pulled a best of 13.20 when I finally got a launch with minimal wheelspin. I then took the car to the track and ran 13.2, 13.3,13.1,13.00. I let a buddy use it in his 81 BMW and he was 1-2 tenths quicker than normal but admited it was also cooler so who knows. I have also tested it on my T/A and my Mustang back when I first got the meter.

You cannot test the meter at the track because they measure differently. So if you try and make a run a the same time as using he GTech it comes out odd. But comparing it to what all my other cars are capable of I would say it is accurate fro ET, MPH it is about 5+ off.

I have not weighed the truck but it is stock weight with about 150lbs of stereo equipment.

When I run it I leave it in auto 4wheel, stall it up to about 2k rpm then mash it, I manually shift from 1st to 2nd at about 5,800rpm (on my stock tach), then into at as close to 6krpm as I can cuz if I hi 3rd durring the run I will run no better than 15.9 or worse.

I don't think I am making big power, I think it is the fact that I never hit 3rd through the whole 1/4mile. It is the same reason why people with HPP3's gain 4 tenths of a second, it's all in the shift points.

I am guessing with cool temps and if I can shift it high enough but keep it off the limiter I could run 15.6-15.8 NP at an actual track. Unfortunately I have too many other cars that really NEED to go to the track for tuning that I never bring this one there. Maybe on a Wed. night I'll do it since it is only $12 then. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I will be sure to post any results no matter how good or bad they are so that if I am wrong then others can learn from it. But racing as many cars as I have I don't think I am.

*crosses fingers he doesn't look like an ****

That's what I was thinking also. Are you plugging in the right weight for that thang? Guys correct me but I think they are just shy of 5000lbs. give or take for a subwoofer or a toolbox etc.

Weight?

You don't have to input the vehicle weight to get 1/4 times from it. Thats when you are doing HP and such.

Unless the newer ones are different. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> But either way mine has never been inaccurate. Except on non-level roads.

your gtech should work fine at the track, for ET anyways, mine is within a few 1/100 at the track. the mph wont work right but i think that might be because they average your speed for the last ? distance at the track where the gtech shows your actual speed right at the finish line. just a theory of mine.
