1 3/4 vs 1 7/8 header size
Been doing my research on both sizes and still cant make up my mind. Getting either the Texas Speed or Speed engineering. Will be going on a stock 6.0 LQ9 along with 3 duals running a X pipe and dual Carven R mufflers no cats. Will also be installing a Volant intake then tune afterwards. Dont plan on going over 400 hp with future mods. What are your guys take on either size?

OP,
We will 2nd the 1 3/4" primary long tubes. madmann26 makes very valid points. For your combo and goals, 1 3/4" long tubes are the way to go. We have the value-minded Pacesetter PSM-70-2265SS headers for the 99-07 Classic trucks.

I like my TSP 1 7/8s on my blown (sometimes) 5.3
I originally bought them and built my exhaust around a blown 408, but since moved on to just keeping her 5.3 and of course the exhaust stayed. Seems fine for what I am doing with her, no back to back comparison with 1 3/4 in my application
My C5 has that 408 now, and its got 1 3/4 LTs, but it hasnt been run or tuned. Probably losing 5-10hp, but gaining torque
Pick your poison and go for it

another vote for 1 3/4 if you're sticking with your low power goals (funny how we jeer at 400hp nowadays).
it'll cost more but make little difference where you're at to go 1 7/8.
i did the bigger ones on my LS1, but that was because i've got a blower almost half the displacement of my engine.
the truck's cammed 5.3 runs great with 1 3/4, and if/when i decide to do a 6.0 swap, i'm keeping the exhaust as-is.

As far as I know Texas Speed only offers the headers and Y pipe. For a complete system you can't beat the Speed Engineering headers and true duals. The mufflers on the true duals are very nicely polished and sound great (one of mine devoloped an rattle and I replaced with Magnaflows). If you have a 4/6 drop the Speed Engineering tailpipes will not fit over the axle housing and between the bed. In this case I'd recommend buying the headers and their universal builders kit with the x-pipe and your own choice of mufflers (needs fabrication). I vote for the 1 3/4 primaries also.

I always go for the larger tube as on an LS there really is no trade off and it allows for more power to grow. But for a stockish truck that really isn't going beyond bolt ons 1 3/4" tube will be fine.

Yeah 1.75 for 400 or less. If not sure and you may do a blower or spray it then go 1 7/8. That bigger header is t going to hurt that much. On my V I started with 2 and the power gain was noticeable but mainly because of cats being gone.
