06 chevy 5.3?
#1
i have a quick question i totalled my 06 chevy extended cab and bought it back from the insurance company. the motor/tranny are still in great shape only 10,00 miles. i thinking of selling them as a combo but dont know what their worth? my second choice is i have a 68 el camino to do a motor swap into. would this be worth the trouble? I herd through this site that you can get some pretty good horsepower out of these motors but dont know anything about them. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

welcome to performancetrucks brother! I would start with the search function, use as general of a term as you can, like CAI (cold air intake), LT headers, etc etc! You should be busy for a few days!

Sorry about your truck. These engines definitely have a lot of potential. The engine/trans combo is worth a good amount but not many people will be jumping on the sale. For around the same price, a 5.7 or 6.0 can be had. Worth the trouble of putting into your El Camino? That depends on how much you like working on your car and what you expect to get out of it performance wise. Like stated above, do some searches to know what you can get power wise and how to get it.

i psid a little over 5k to get the truck back, but it stiil has all the interior basically only thing worng with the truck is the frame is bent kinda like an upside down u and the exhaust and drive shaft got ripped out. thats why i was thinking of parting it out. i already got an offer on the cab and bed for 2500 and if i can get somewhere around that for the motor/tranny/transfercase/ g80 rearend i should be in good shape. its just going to be a lot of work. thanks for the info i appreciate it

That would be a fun project to shoe horn that thing in an old elky. If you get all the engine and trans wiring and ecm out of it without breaking any wires, you should be able to do that swap. It would be unique and should run really nice, if you have the right gear combo in it. It is worth looking into. I am sure there are motor mounts to be had to get the engine and trans in there. I know that there is an article in the July 07 issue of Popular Hot Rodding where they were putting an LS1 in a mustang, there was a company building some simple hook ups to the ECM wiring that you could just hook up a positive, key on, and ground to the ecm and get it to work.
Let us know what you decide to do.
Good luck either way.
