Default 05 2500 heads/cam package

my buddy has been watching me slowly build my 383 and has decided to install heads and cam into his 2500 6.0 4wd truck. i am looking for opinions about what to buy. he doesnt plan on running a stall just yet and the truck is lifted 6 inches with 33" tires. the only mods it has is exhaust. any and all help would be awesome.

I know its fun to pick out a heads/cam combo. But honestly, in a truck that big, I wouldn't consider doing anything n/a on a stock cubes engine. The cam would have to be so small to work well with the stock converter. It wouldn't be worth it, imo.

I'd look for a used tvs 1900. The money is damn near the same. It would make for a nice DD. Can be installed with a decent tool box and a driveway. And would outperform just about any proper h/c combo on a 6.0 in a hd. Especially a lifted one, with oversized tires.

If he is set on a h/c setup. I'd go fbo, 212/218 cam, and a set of stock 243s.

Plus one on the cam and head choice ^^^^. I am in the process of the same mods to my 2007 Classic 2500HD CCRB 4x4. I have some 799's that are milled .020", a set of PAC 1218 valve springs, a set of 8.1 truck injectors, a 220/218 .581/.562 111LSA cam, and misc gaskets, seals, and what not. If I could find some spare time I would have the parts on the truck by now. Gears will be a big help with your friends truck. I have a 6" lift and 35's. My truck woke up a lot with a set of 4.88's. Oh and I allready have a CIA and cat back dual exhaust.

i think ill have him invest in 4.88's and a fast 102 and LT headers with a Wheatley tune first.

Just cause 4.88's work for me doesn't mean they will work for your friend. If he never plans on running anything bigger than 33's, then 4.56's might be a better bet. He really needs to think about what he uses the truck for most, and what he expects to get out of it before selecting gears.

with 285's and a 6.0 with a little more compression and full exhaust with a decent tune a cheater style cam like in my motor will have great torque. My setup now hardly ever goes over 3k as compared to my old 5.3 setup that downshifted a lot more. Rainy days are fun and kinda scary at times and thats with no stall. just something to look at. not saying its the best but it does have great low end.
