300hp = LQ4 , 345= LQ9. Biggest difference is compression ratio. 9.4:1 in LQ4 10:1 in the LQ9. LQ9 also has slighltly beefier connecting rods, floating wrist pin and pistons, flat top in the lq9 and dished in the lq4. Thats where the higher CR comes from. Little more aggressive tuning in the lq9.

biggest difference is the pistons. and i thought 04 was 325hp/370 tq compared to the LQ9 of 345/380 tq....this is where .5 of CR= 15 to 20 hp gain. besides teh pistons they are the same down to the last bolt, supposly

So just switchin to flat tops could be 20 - 40 HP.. not too bad if the motor was out anyway... Thanks allot for D-knowledge..

similar to swapping 4.8 pistons in a 5.3. youll net a gain of about 15 to 20 hp. also a cheap build up if you wanted nothing but labor would be find a LQ9 or LQ4 cam. its almost the same specs as a early Y body cam. with the addition to the pistons and cam it should take the underated 5.3 up past 300hp with ease.
