Default '03 SS - What to do first?

I just purchased an 03 Silverado SS, and would like to put exhaust on it.

I am ordering this package today
INTAKE PROGRAMMER PACKAGE for $549

AEM Brute Force Intake, Programmer, and TB Spacer.

I would also like to order a cat back exhaust system, but either want the corsa sport or the magnaflow. Which one should I go with? I want it to be semi loud at normal driving, but very agressive when i stand on it.

Any Ideas?

By far the best thing I've done for my SS is the 6cyl Trailblazer stall converter. Makes the launch much harder. Head on over to silveradoss.com forums for SS specific stuff if you don't get your answers here.

As far as exhaust goes, I like the custom made ones with dumps or side exits. I think they sound the best.

Not the package I'd go for, but you're on the right track. As for exhaust, I'd go Corsa.

Not sure about the Diablosport, but most folks will recommend a custom tune (mail order or dyno) over any hand held.

This is uat my experience and I had people tell me the same thing Im telling you and I didnt listen and wish I had. For the price of a hand held programmer you can get a custom tune from a sponsor or non sponsor. You will get alot more for your $ this way. You call the tell them what you have and want to do with your truck and they will ship you a PCM. It takes about 10 minute to take the old on out and put the new on in. You then ship the stock one back to the programmer and he tunes it for someone else. I originally had a Hypertech and it was crap. I then went the mail order tune route but then things got serious and I needed tuning software(HPTuners). Out of all the hand held programmer I think the Diablo is the best. At least it was a few years ago. TB spacers are pointless from what I hear. I never messed with them. Just trying to point you in the right direction. Have fun!

Thanks TigerFan,

I was looking at HPTuners, would it be worth me buying thier kit, and tuning it myself, or having one of the performance shops around the area here tune it. I know someone about half hour from my house with an SS and he uses this software to tune his truck and loves it. Im sure he could be a hand.

What I understand, an exhaust, HPTuners/Custom Tune, and Intake would make my truck feel completely different. What exhaust should I go after? I want a catback and want it to exit out the sides not straight out the back.

I like the AEM intake but i'd pass on the TB spacer and handheld programmer.

The absolute best thing you can do is a custom tune on a load bearing dynomometer. Intake and good flowing exhaust will help pump air in and out but the tune will make the most of the mods.
You can not believe how much more fun your truck will be to drive if tuned properly

The TB spacer just elongates the intake and hasn't been proven to add anything. Handhelds will add something but nothing like a real custom tune. Trust me, I did both.

everyone is leading you on the right track - stay away from the handheld programmers or you will regret it in the future. A higher stall converter would make the truck an totally different animal - something such as the converter designed for the I-6 Trailblazer would keep it tight, yet really make the truck launch. The throttle body spacer is a complete waste, unless you enjoy hearing high pitched whistling from your intake... As far as the intake is concerned: I don't really see the point in spending that kind of money for what they are giving you - if you go ahead and convert to electric fans you can build your own intake tube straight and smooth and just add a filter of your choice to the end of it, all for alot cheaper than that filter kit

How right you are! For about the same money as an intake "kit", you can almost have electric fans and a fabricated intake.

I would stay away fron that kit.. I think its a waste of money personally.

I like the AEM intake, I had it on my truck, but now it is sitting in the garage waiting to go in the next one. I reccomend buying a Corsa Sport cat-back kit or one of the Magnaflow Kits. That paired up with some e-fans and a custom tune from Nelson or one of the other sponsors will give you a decently quick truck. After that throw a stall converter in it like the TB stall or equivelent.
