Default 02 PCMs upgrade clear as mud

I have Ls1 edit I have yet you use,i have several spare PCMs none of which have the stock tune and they are locked. My plan is to buy a used 02 PCM from a 5.3 truck do a Vats relearn and then use my edit. Question is will this work? and what about the Alt light coming on?How would i shut that off rather than run a wire?Or is it only on the 99s?Mine is a 2k truck.thanks

first off is the edit for a 2000. if so then it will not work if i remember correctly/ for an 02 pcm. yes there is a box to check that will turnh it off in hptuners so i suppose it is in edit as well.

Im not sure of any differences in the PCM's but that isnt to say that there arent any. I just had my PCM (which was locked) and 2 others reflashed at the dealership with my VIN and info. My truck is an 01.

02denali brought up a good point. carputing inputs the vehicle models you have on the cable when they send it to you. So if you told them you have a 2000 truck, it will work on a 2000 LM7, but not necessarily a 2001 or 2002. If the cable is enabled for the 02 year model, then you can use it with an 02 VIN on your older truck.

Do this: take the cable and hook it to your truck to download the tune. Even if the PCM is locked it will download. On that LS1 Program screen when you connect it will display what VINs have been used and also what models the cable itself will work on.

I've got an edit cable here with two open VINs, but its only setup for the 2003 year model. So I need to tune two more 2003 trucks, or send it to carputing and pay them to alter it.

Wont work man. Been there, done that. The segment ID's have got to be the same or it wont fly. Youll just have to send the cable back to Ken and let him update it for an 02 truck. Thats what I have to do.

He hasn't used edit yet, so its not locked to a pcm.

Hey Gonz, what year is Jim's Denali? If its an 02, then your cable will handle what you want to do.
