Default '02 5.3 ext cab 4x4- 6.0 swap?

Newbie here. I have gotten a bit of info in the past for my 99 SS Camaro but now am embarking on a new project. i have an '02 1500 ext cab 4x4 with a blown up 5.3 (not my deal, bought it this way) . I am trying to decide whether to drop in another 5.3 or upgrade to the 6.0. Looks like a bolt in operation and I should be able to use the intake, injectors, ECM etc. off of the 5.3 from what i have read. HP and torque don't look that far off and the fuel economy doesn't sound good as far as posts I have read. I have always been a proponant of " no replacement for displacement" so i am leaning to the 6.0 even though the small amount of research says stick with what i have. I am looking for anyone who has experience with this. I figured on an intake, cat back, and having someone tune it ( terminology- not sure, fix computer?). Is there enough performance to warrant the extra $600 for the motor, the extra fuel burned, and the hassle involved with doing something a little different? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
michael

The other thing to consider is the transmission... it seems that the 5.3L is almost pushing the limit of the 4L60E in these trucks... dunno if the transmissions are really that weak, or if it's a heat issue, or if it's a vehicle weight issue, or...

In any event, it's just something to consider, is all I am saying.

They are weak, cheap plastic parts inside, TM sometimes reduces fluid flow to 3-4 clutch pack.... It burns up. Whole myriad of fun stuff with the 4L60.

"TM" torque management? Sounds like I should get it tuned either way I go. Should help the trans last a little longer as well.

Do the 6.0,if your after performance install a used mild cam, have a custom tune. For the trans do a vette servo and at some point do a shift kit.My mileage dropped 1 mpg HWY to 18MPG,town/country driving dropped 1 MPG.Towing mileage went up 3 MPG.My truck has some serious *****.
