01 2500HD 6.0 mod help
#11
I have a 212/218 cam in a 5.3 with stock converter and I think a 6.0 could get away with a little bigger cam as my truck can handle this cam really good. It feels just like the stock cam in the bottom end, and I've seen a dyno graph that shows nothing is lost downlow with it.
The 6.0 should handle a 216/220 just fine as it has more bottom end than the 5.3, maybe even a TR220 but I don't know if you're pushing it a little too much with the stock converter.

HD could get tricky those things are tanks, I had 2 an 06 6.0 and 04 8.1 , takes a ton of torqe to move em ...the good news is you have 4/10s ...those truck always do better with a whipple or maggie because of the torque needed to tow/ and move that heavy turd...Imo I would just try a good tuner such as Wheatly and see how you like it ...then if you want the hastle of a cam swap stay small...I only run a 217/219 and its plenty for my taste in a half ton...I would do a cam made for torque or something along that line...

I have an 01 2500 hd- The best bang for the buck was the tune. I have longtube headers freebee mods no cats or egr. E-fans (blackbear 2 pin) dual homemade 16 inch. I had Jes at Wait4meperformance do the tune-75 bucks if you mail him ur pcm- might b 100 bucks more if you want a spare pcm. Some have had problems with W4MP tune but mine was awesome. 11.75 to the gallon towing- i also have 33's. Shift points make a big difference when you change to an oversize tire! GO WITH THE TUNE! I will be installing a cam later this summer but i'm going with a custom 104/118 114lsa using 2002 z06 refreshed. thats my 2 cents on it! keep us updated on the cam u choose
