Default Please Help Me Choose My T6 BW S400sx Series Turbo

I have a 1981 c1500 short box with an Lq9/4l80e combo, a Transgo HD-2 shift kit, and a stock 2500HD factory "high stall" converter. The only mods to the engine will be upgraded injectors, upgraded fuel pump, PAC valve springs, and MAYBE meth if my tuner recommends it. I will be using trick's T6 cast manifold and tying it in to a header for the hot side.

This will be a daily driver, so I don't plan to race my truck or run it hard all the time but I would like to have the power on demand if the need arises.

I am not looking for the most power since my motor is not "built" yet. I would like to at the least have around 500hp to the wheels if my motor can take that kind of power once in a blue moon

I am dead set on the $600 dollar range T6 Borg Warner's. What turbine sizes and A/R's are recommended for my combo and why?

I have tried searching the internet, this site and many other forums like LS1tech etc, for my specific application but can't find what I am looking for.

I've called two of the most reputable turbo companies I could find and both had two different opinions, so now I summon the turbo Guru's that are not just trying to sell me something.

Thanks.

You can't find what you're looking for because it's a terrible combo for your intended purpose.

Stock converter is a piece of ****, performance and spool will suffer. Given for all that, you're absolute best bet is the 83mm turbine and 1.1 T6 housing, but I don't know if that's a $650 deal like the 96mm turbine/1.32 AR T6 housing.

$600 maybe used but not new...cast 74-76mm with the smaller turbine should be just fine. You will probably want it in a T4 though.

Is that the s475 you're recommending? Technically, why are your recommending 74-75mm?

Yea, thatll work. I say that size because it will meet your goals and I know BW makes a unit in those specs.

How about the turbine wheel size and the turbine A/R?

I think it normaly comes with the 83mm turbine and a 1.0 T4 housing should spool just fine.

T6 is a big turbo needs some air to feed it.

If that's what you are doing, then I'd only go with the 83mm turbine with the 1.10 a/r. I ran that turbo on my old LS1 in my truck and it was ok to spool. But I would not use a header on the drivers side. Stock manifold will perform MUCH better!
