Default 0 oil pressure...help

I just installed my 6.0 and I have no oil pressure. I hooked up an oil pressure gauge and it still reads 0. Has anyone had this problem. The needle does not even budge. Thanks for any help.

Did you install the oil galley plug under the rear cover? If you forgot that you'll have no oil pressure.

To be honest I do not know. I had a local shop build the engine for me and the rear cover was already on there. I guess I will drop the tranny tommorow and see if its on there or not. I hope that is the problem.

Can I get to that plug without dropping the transmission or pulling the motor?

Nope. You have to either pull the engine or the transmission.

Before you go that far you may want to think about:

1. The oring on the oil pickup tube. If it got crushed or nicked, your oil pump may not be able to pull the oil out of the pan.
2. Broken lifter, bearing tolerances.
3. Bad or dirty oil pump. I understand that pre 2001 pumps can just go bad with no warning.

If you had a local shop put the engine together you may want to make them find your oil pressure problem. If that shop isn't familiar with the LS1 style engine, they could have forgotten the real oil galley plug -- The old SBC doesn't have 'em.

Best of luck to you.
