Default Wont **** into 4x4

Hi I am the proud owner of a 2000 chevy 5.3 Z71. I recently got a message in my dash to "Service 4WD". Then my switch panel for the 4X4 options quit working on me. What could be wrong with it?? Thanks.

Those dash switches goes out all the time on the early models. Just pick up a new switch at the dealer, I believe it less than $50.
My 99' said the same thing and it was the switch.

Rubi, there are no vacuum lines on the newer trucks for the 4wd.

solenoids? Sorry my 4x4 are the older modles with vaccum lines were it is VERY common for one to just pull off and cause a similiar problem.
