Why are 5 pinion planets such a high price upgrade?

Agreed, when I had a 60E built years ago, builder wanted $600 for OEM 5 pinions. Forgot if that was front & back tho. It was awhile ago, as in 2 blown built 60E's.

Stick w/. OEM 5 pin.

That should tell ya everything ya need to know.

Can't say I agree. I say tranny goes 1st. They have for me; & I believe others blow more 60E's than G80's.

But u also never said stock or modded. The closest to the shock (ENGINE) gets the brunt of the abuse = tranny. It then transmits shock rearward. If u have sticky tires / slicks, that leads to more shock to rearend. Hard lauches don't do any favors to any driveline parts tho.

On a lifted truck with large tires...its almost always the diff that gives out first in my experiences. And if the trans does go, its usually on the output side...Its just a massive amount of mass to get spinning.

Also depends on the rear gearing. I run 4.88s and soon to be 5.13s.

I found a pretty reputable trans builder that will build a nice "level 5" with delco 5 pinions and such for a damn good price and will be going that route. Itll run the same price at Performabuilts level 2 (which I was dead set on). Im going to skip the billet shafts since I dont launch or anything. Its just a driver.
