Default What year tranny will work with my 98 chevy 2500

I have a 98 chevy auto 4wd 2500 and I need a used tranny. I found a guy to rebuild it for 650 plus converter which is my last resort. I lost reverse and checked the servo and piston which look fine.
I know there were a tranny lin difference in the 96 and older models and there was another change in 99 I think. Ill basically use any year Im not picky Im looking for used ones now. Which ones will fit

98 chevy 2500 4wd automatic..... Thanks!

You need a 93-00classic 4wd 4L80E. I would shy away from a 650.00 rebuild. If you get the good parts that are going to ensure factory life the second go round the parts are going to cost you that alone.

In mid 96 they changed the oil cooler line positions on the case but that is the only difference the basic transmission and it's functions are identical for the years I listed above.

Ok so if I get 96+ then the lines will be the same as my 98 and if I get 93-95 they will be in different positions. I heard 99-00 had stronger internals? Thanks for info! I found a guy with a 95 for 500 including converter supposedly under 30k miles but you know how that goes.
