Default at what point is a C-notch required?

Ive been looking to lower my rig. Not to sure what route to take tho. Itll be a street/strip truck, been wondering when a c-notch would be required and would it be a bad idea for a drag truck? What would everyone recommend for a drop on a truck that'll see alot of strip time?

Haha. That would be one way to find out. I was told by someone that a axle flip would require a c notch. That's what, 5 inches doing that? Not too sure how true it was. I rarely see posts on here from guys doing notches.
