What does the trans segment swap do?

What does the trans segment swap do?
Just wondering what it does when swapping a 4L60E for a 4L80E ... does it reverse the B solenoid outputs to the trans and switches the tune to TCC using PWM only (instead of PWM and ON/OFF in the 60) ... or does it only do the codes/diagnostics? Have been wondering this.
