What is this clunking?
#1
I seem to be hearing a clunking noise from the rear of my truck. It seems to be a chattery kind of clunking. This noise occurs usaully when I'm coasting and not under acceleration. I had my rear diff cover offer and found a slight amount of metal shaving on the magnet but nothing unusual, The gears appear fine and everything seems to be withen tolerance. I refilled the diff with a 75-90 synthetic and added a limited slip additive and I'm still hearing clanking noises? My driveshaft and u-joints appear fine and I see nothing wrong with my suspension? what in the world can it be?

is the clunking noise similar to the driveshaft clunk?
is the noise near where the tranny meets the driveshaft or more back by your differential?
i have had many noises from my truck. i had driveshaft clunk. also, i had axle work done at dealer and they put in the wrong fluid in my differential, which caused grinding noises with my posi.
