dirt track sorry for the dumb question but are you going to reinforce or remake any of the crossmembers that you took out? honestly ive wondered about taking that bolt in one out but have been skeptical. i mean my trucks been retired from mud for quite some time but it still very rarely does have to see farm land/field. im just afraid of something puncturing my oil pan

Unfortunately the traditional stuff like windows don't fly with our trucks. (Back glass is like 14lbs) however, however, how many guys have thought about hollowing out the inside of your doors or dash? Lots of extra material and bracing that is unnessecary in our trucks. Swapping from power seats to manual seats helps a surprising amount or going with racing seats. Trying to think of other things I have thought of before.

i had my dash pad off to pull my ps airbag and was definitley debating about going deeper thinking what else i could take off without having the top piece warp/get too flimsy and what else could go. after earlier today theres some things that need fixing on the truck and ill be doing my solid motor mounts then too. depending on what ive got left for the rest of the day i might rip out the dash, depin some wiring or just bust out the cut off wheel and go to town. ive also thought about cutting all the unused area of door away and just having the slip points remain for how the door panel attatches. i saw one member in a thread a while back that took out the supports on his hood to ditch some weight. not a bad idea if i was keeping the hood but ill be going glass so its not really worth the time.

that xmember under the oil pan dirttrack was talking about looks like itd be worth some weight for sure though. i dont think me cutting out the xmembers would be the best bet for me since i do also use this thing as a work horse if things dont fit/cant be hauled in the sdime

I eventually plan on cutting the whole front of the frame off and make a chrome moly cradle for it.

I would assume your opinion is those crossmembers don't provide a large structural strength benefit?

Yes they do.. The truck is built like a rock. Literally.. Gm has to do that to keep frame strong enough to handle the abuse idiots will put it through. I'm build a street/drag truck, it'll be no different than how drag cars are built.

I didn't mean to come off rude, I realized re-reading my post it sounds dickish.

I asked because I was curious if frame twist, etc. was an increased concern without a cage added. I am interested in doing something similar so I was just fishing for info.

I wonder how heavy the very rear most crossmember is ?
It could be replaced with a smaller OD tube say 1" sch40 that would be stronger and lighter , but the weight of that piece needs to be known first of course .

It would be nice to have a spare junkyard frame around to cut on , get weights on pieces cut , and mod to see how it would turn out first before chopping on the real thing .

I'd love to lighten up my truck more ( it's just a street /strip toy also), but other than swapping out the heavy Denali seats and stock console I'm kinda done ,it's nice to go cruising in without being too bare bones ,but if I ever could see a 10.99 in my future it would def motivate me haha .
