My friend just bought a 2006 gmc 4.3l 5spd and wants 20s and im tryin to talk him out of it unless he gets centerlines bc theyre so much lighter. I just dont know how bad its gonna hurt the v6. Ive heard that 20s really bog a truck and cause a rough ride due to thin tires. What do yall think... Any personal experiences.
Thanks,
Derek

If he doesn't mind the truck being even more of a dog than it already is, why not?
For everyday driving it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Since he's got a 4.3 truck it's obvious he isn't racing (or SHOULDN'T be
).

m truck as of right now has no clue it has 20s on it. easily spin almost into 3rd if needed from a stop or even break them loose on a roll. i know im loosing some with them but i wonder how actually. i figured the weight of the tires would help with traction i was wrong. alot of low end just kills tires no matter size or width. 305s turn like nothig

I'm a "sleeper truck" kinda guy so I don't like 20's. I'd hate to put 20's on my truck and risk losing straight line performance. Heck, if I had a Silverado SS, I would remove those heavy factory 20's and promptly install a nice set of 17"/18" Bogarts or something similar. However, 20" wheels on a 4.3 truck is a good idea. 4.3 trucks are only good for work or show trucks, IMO.

I had a 4.3 with a 5 speed and put on 20's
. I lost 5th gear all together. If I was not on flat land fith was out of the question. I basically ran fourth all the time. I would not do it again.

I'm happy with my Joe Gibbs 20's...after running 33's on 16" rims, I think I'll be better off in straight line performance since I dropped 2" in diameter now that I'm on a 31" tire
Not to mention, the truck looks and handles great...I'm sure the lower center of gravity from the 2ish/4 drop helped with that too.
As far as weight goes, the 20's are definitely noticeably heavier than the factory 16's, but I'm not sure about the wheel and tire combo weight comparison before and after....those BFG 285/75's were some heavy *** tires!
