I am very hesitant to go true locker considering the cost and the extra stress it can add due to it not liking corners.
Not trying to be a dick and don't take it that but you are wrong actually....... Honestly nobody understands how a tru trac actually is supposed to work. It doesn't lock....... ever, period. It physically cannot lock the 2 axle shafts together at any point unless the worm gears turn into mashed potato and weld themselves. All it does is try and shift the power from the wheel with the higher speed and more slippage to the slower one.... that's it. They were built and designed for road racing so when you come out of a hard corner you won't just spin like with a clutch type, cone type or open diff. The inside tire to the turn will unload and spin so the tru trac ( or quaiffe they took the design from) will shift power to the outside tire to get you going. That's how they are supposed to work..... supposed to being key.

OP how many accumulated miles have you ever put on a Detroit locker.... because I have quite a few now and have yet to have an issue with one. Anyone who has ever driven my truck doesn't even notice anything different about it. I do... but that's because I own it, lol.

If a locker is a true problem of yours than a clutch type LSD would be my second choice. The tru trac wouldn't even be a consideration.

I'm on my second Yukon Duragrip in two months, for those looking at them. Destroyed the spider gears on the first one after less than a month but they sent me a new one for free.

While it was working, I really enjoyed it. Great for a dd.

I've always been told a locker only locks up in corners when you push the throttle. Not sure, as I daily drive a spool.

A true locked-style differential (Detroit) will unlock during corners as long as they are not under torque input. This is different from the Gov-Lock which only locks up when wheel speeds reach certain ratios.

So yes, a Detroit will chirp the inside tire if you try to power it through a turn.

^ Exactly what I was saying (about Detroit lockers anyway).

I had a Toyota 4x4 for about 5 years with a Detroit locker in the back axle and never had issues with it. It had great road manners compared to a lunch box locker or open diff and I never felt out of control or dangerous in ice or snow. This is probably the way I will go when I do gears in mine......
