U-JOINT problem (I think)
#1
My truck has around 140k miles on it now and I recently had the transmission rebuilt. I had it professionally done and also had a Transgo shift kit and a Corvette servo installed. That was around 2500 miles ago.
Today on my way home, when my truck shifted into second from first I heard a loud "POP". Now there's a squeaking when I'm going down the road and when I turn there's a "pop, pop, pop". I'm thinking it's my U-Joint going out.
What do you guys think? If it is the u-joint, what do you recommend I go with for replacement and getting it fixed? Or if you have anymore suggestions, chime in please!
Thanks!

doesnt sound like a u-joint. i just did all 3 of my u-joints symptoms were vibrating and weird noises when torque was being put on the driveshaft (5speed, accel or decel.) then again mine did squeak a little bit. if youre getting any strange vibrations when putting your foot on the gas id say u-joints otherwise i couldnt tell ya

Okay, so I cracked it open and discovered that the pinion gears were stripped to hell and back and the pinion housing was also busted and cracked. However, the ring gear is fine.
I have a 3.42 now and have been wanting to upgrade to a 3.73. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do for rebuild and/or replacement?
