Default removing 4wd

ok, automotiveforums didnt really seem to help much, and my friend reffered me to this forum. so im looking forward to seeing what you guys have to offer. i have a 97 4dr 4x4 blazer. i blew the first motor by offroading a little to much, abusively. so i put a new motor in, and im thinking bout having some fun with this blazer, i am looking to remove the 4wd in it, leaving it a 2wd. looking for the easiest way, while removing the fwd components, leaving the original tranny, and rear driveshaft. i heard that the 4wd system adds 300-400lbs?! if i can do this, how much will it run me rougly, and how hard is this. and im not looking for professional, just to get it done and get me by.
