Couldn't be a better time to slap in some new gears and a trutrac

Is the trutrac a noticeable difference from a g80?
What gears u goin w/.?

I had someone tell me a G80 is basically the same as a Truetrac. I wish I could see how a G80 looks that hasn't been broken into bits. Then I could see for myself. I still wanna say

Told me to run the G80 til it blows, then go w/. a Eaton LSD. Told me a Truetrac will take out my expensive tranny if it locks up. I guess a LSD doesn't do that. I'd hate for that to happen, but I think I'm gonna go against that advice & go TT. Another person told me he's never seen a TT break. And they install em for a living. Many of em. Makin more power than I am, or probably ever will.

I was curious as to how the trutrac feels vs the g80. The reason I asked was they work on a different principal from my understanding (someone correct me if I am wrong) - trutrac doesn't lock for example. I've only had experience with the g80. Regarding them being the same, I know the g80 has clutches.

I am sticking with 3.73's, just a new ring/pinion set. I have a 170k on my current ones and it's not that expensive to just replace themnow when I am having everything else replaced rather then when they break. I'll be running more power soon. After I get the suspension aspect of my truck completely handled (almost there, everything is new so far) I will start gathering the parts for my 370 build. I just need to few more things - Replace my Edlebrock IAS shocks for Bilstein HD, Get some Caltracks. I am not a track guy, I just like some fun on the street.

Just sucks - Without my truck until tuesday due to the holiday. It's drivable but I rather not muck up the diff anymore. There's enough play in the axel it clanks in the bearing side to side & up and down.

TT has a solid case basically, the LSD has a big chunk cut outta it. I call that a weak point. TT has gears that mesh, LSD has clutches & can wear in as little as a 1-2 yrs. While some can get a lot, lot longer than that. Drivin habits brother.

I was told it takes a little more effort to build that LSD into as good as the TT, & it still isn't as good. Not my words, but someone I'd believe as telling me the real deal.

I like the TT for these reasons, about how it differs & is made, but also I believe it's a better app. for me.

SHES IN!

Have to do the gear break in period so I can't play yet. Initial impression with the new gears, bearings and trutrack is... It feels reallllly good. My shift quality has improved considerably, assuming its due to no slop. There was ALOT of it.

I do notice the trutrac chatters (maybe the wrong term) a bit in slow driving in say a parking lot - is this normal? I feel something werid, I can't describe it.

There's normal dino oil in it, not synthetic.

Next up - Driveshaft - New ujoints, New carrier bearing, and high speed balance. Does 350.00 sound reasonable?

New UJoints (3 of them - its a 2 piece shaft) + Installation
New Carrier Bearing + Installation
High Speed Balance

The price quote was from Inland Driveline if anyone is familiar.

I was quoted $350 / 400 by 1 shop & $400 (shop 2) by another.
1st shop said $400 w/. slip yoke for a 3 1/2" 1 pc (I'm RCSB) alum. high speed bal. If I provide slip yoke, it's $350. 1 day turnaround.

Shop 2 said $400 whether I wanted 3 1/2 or 4" alum.

Is that for aluminum & does it include slip yoke? Ya gotta find out, cause obviously, in my 1st ex., it saves me $50 if they reuse mine. That's the reason for the $50 difference.

Well after reading this thread probably 20 times the Visa card took a sucker punch and a truetrac was ordered. God, I hope some day I will be able to kick this addiction or I finish the truck.....
Rear should be good to go now, steel driveshaft, HD U joints, 4.56 gear, trutrac, and Caltracs.... Maybe I'll I get a 1.6 60 ft now, I HOPE!
