TrueTrac gear oil - synthetic or no?

I've read a lot of people who run synthetic with no problems. I've also read of people having noise, clunking, and the unit not transferring torque properly while running synthetic and switching to conventional fixed the issues. I've seen it on PT.net, ls1 truck, titan forum, SVT forum, mustang forum, chevelle forum...

I'm no differential/locker/LSD expert and I don't have the experience, training or knowledge to argue about gear oil. I chose to follow the manufacturer recommendations.
