True Trac Locker

Hey guys. I have a chance to pick one of these up from only 50 bucks.
I want to know more information on these things before I go ahead and but it. I know that I will need a spring or two and maybe to replace the clutches.
Is this a waste of my time? should i stick to going with the Eaton unit like I had planned?

There are no clutches or springs in a true-trac. It is like a torsen. It has spiral gears that press against each-other. If it isnt broken in half, it should still work. They are torque proportioning, so it only "posi's" when thee is torque applied.

When you are under coast there is no torque applied to the pinion or into the rear, the momentum is keeping it moving. When you are accelerating there is a lot of torque being applied, when you are cruising, very little. The amount of torque you apply to it determines how stiffly it splits the torque.

It has no clutches at all. Their slogan is something like "no clutches, no cones, no problem" or something like that. I think there are some wave type spring washers in there, but no regular type springs that I know of.

BTW- they are stronger than stock, but not as strong as an Eaton or Detroit Locker. Probably about the same as a Auburn or so. They do make some competition ones that are pretty tough also, but that is circle track, like 9".
