you'll also want to pick up a set of bearings and races and preferably a shim pack with various sizes... as mentioned earlier, this is a job best left to someone that knows there way around a differential.

I'm not scared to pull motors, swap cams or transmissions - but when it came time to do my rear diff. I dropped it off to a shop I could trust

yes i had the G80 before. i had someone install the truetrac for me. to my knowledge though, he didn't have to use any shims, just the stock ones. i know a few other people that installed the true trac and didn't need any shims other than the stock ones.

DOn't mean to bring up an old thread but this one is perfect...

so basically what is going on here is... you buy the tru-trac carrier.. and gut the current differential housing and those g80 internals get replaced with the new tru-trac?

So when all is said and done.. you will have a Tru-Trac rear end no more worrying about the g80 taking a **** on you?

and when looked at from under neith its still a 8.5" 10bolt?

Ive replaced the bearings in my rear diff once.. about 25,000 miles ago..

then i replaced the Grenade-80 with a Eaton LSD by myself, only took about hour and a half. and thats been almost 18,000 miles ago and still works like new, no noises or anything...

the true trac replaces the whole carrier. you have to get new bearings pressed onto the true trac and then bolt your ring gear onto it and install.

and yes, if you put in a true trac (or Eaton LSD for that matter) you have taken away the weak link in the rear end. you can obviously still break stuff like axles or whatever bu i don't think you're pushing that much HP. haha.

and your rear end is a 10 bolt 8.625".
