Default Transmission......what if it ....

i just curious to see what some of yalls opinions and thoughts on this... lets say u blow your stock tranny today....what would u do..have a local shop rebuild for couple of grand or buy whole tranny off the internet.. lets say the truck is 4 wheel drive....2005 sierra ( no i didn't blow mine yet....but i know it won't last for another 100k )

If you have a local shop that you can trust and knows what they are doing, then I say go for it. But thats a hard thing to find these days. If not, you can't go wrong with FLT or Performabuilt.

ok what about differentials.....rebuild or buy else where......i got quoted to swap 4.88's front and rear plus eaton in the rear for 3300. is that high?

WOW...sounds really high to me. I know rear build with all new parts is around $1k and that's on the higher end.

If you have a reputable shap in your area that will stand behind their work (warranty) then do that. Much easier to drop it off and say fix it, than to pull and ship IMO. All tranny shops have failures, including the big names.
