You'll need a temp probe in the pan somewhere. If you want a near-stock install, newer trucks at least as new as '04 come with a factory pan temp probe already in the pan. Otherwise you can drill and install your own, or get a nice Mag Hytec pan for the 4L60E. Another pan available on Summit is a TCI knock off from the Mag Hytec pan, both linked below.

My 05 does not have a probe in the factory pan nor have I ever seen one in a factory pan. Now the trans are wired for a factory temp gage in the cluster from 99 to present.

The Mag-Hytec pan and also the Mag-hytec diff cover have a plug for the temp sensor. I am running both on my truck.

have a good one.

Was always curious about the possibility of using the stock resistor loop (trans temp) in conjunction with a trans temp gauge. Never pursued it. Guess in order to get that to work, it'd depend on the resistance requirement for a manufacturer's gauge. *edit* I think I remember the stock resistor is something around 100K ohms.

How about someone volunteering to try that out for the board. Here's a schematic to get you started. Git 'r dun!
