How many of you guys have installed the Transgo shift kit yourself?

How difficult was it and about how long did it take?

Thinking about putting one in after I install my converter this week.

I have successfully completed 2 installs of the HD2 kit and vette servo into 4L60E. Before the installs, I didn't have any experience with the 4L60E at all. The only time I've been in a transmission was about 8 years ago when I changed the fluid in my turbo 350.

Bottom line, if you can read directions and turn a wrench, you can complete this install. Just allow plenty of time and don't rush it. I did the first one in about 12 hours by myself and the second I assisted my buddy(who has never done one) and we had it back up in about 6-8 hours.

 

.....except I did mine on the 4L80E with the truck on jack stands. If you read the instructions carefully and take your time it should not be a problem if you are reasonably mechanically inclined.

Get an aluminum accumulator piston as well as the HD2 can crack the plastic ones. Most replace the servos and separator plate as well. Get a hold of FLT ----> and they will get you headed off in the right direction.

 

How long did it take you with piston and servos?

 

jsut ordered HD 2, valvepalte, pistons, and servos today for my POS.....excited..and a stall

 

read carefully and take your time, you wont have any problems.

 

you can do the shif tkit and servo withouit dropping the trans, ive done it in mine. but i did leave a few peices out of the shift kit, but they werent that important imo. but ive taken a 4l60e apart several times. the servos' can be a beast with the tranny in the truck , but it can be done.

 

Did mine with the trans in the truck. Took me about 8 hours to complete because I wanted to be sure I was reading the instructions correctly. The servo swap was the only difficult part and it was a real PITA getting the servo cover back in and getting the snap ring seated fully. I had to drop the rear of the trans as low as the motor mounts would allow to get it reinstalled.
Worth the time and money for sure. I guess I still need to remove at least some of the torque management because the 2-3 shift is still pretty slow.

Read the directions, keep all the parts in their orginal bags, don't open everthing all at once, open each bag per page of instructions. There's a couple of springs that look the same, but they're not. Some are taller, or differ in color.

In my pics, I showed how I seperated the servo pistons, and anything else that you might need, be careful when taking off the screens on the seperator plate, they're tender.
