Trans. Shift Question

Trans. Shift Question
When placing the the trans. in 2nd gear from the gear shift, run it through 1st, shifts to 2nd, will it automatically shift to 3rd once it hits the rev limiter...? Or will it stay in 2nd until you move the gear selector to 3rd...?
