Default Trans removal, and need the info for a driveshaft

My 4L60e in my 2004 ext cab, long bed 2wd took a dump. How difficult is it to remove the trans? Should be significantly easier than an F-body, right? I've gotten several quotes of around $400 to remove and replace, plus fluids and incidentals. Seems high, I had my trans r&r'd in my Formula for right around $200 bucks. Also, my driveshaft was starting to vibrate before this issue. Would I be better off to go with a new unit from GM, or rebalance?

All the stuff I found on google was just "unbolt trans and converter". I'm looking for something slightly more in depth. kthxbye
