Default trans problems need help!

I think i have some trans problems. I have an 01 gmc 5.3. Its starting to shift really long between 1st and 2nd. In 2nd when its get to around 3000rpms its starts to slip until its hits around 4000rpms then grabs again. When flooring it in 3rd and it down shifts into 2nd sometimes it raps up then back down and starts pulling and sometimes has some jerks when its pulling. Any suggestions, is it time for a rebuild? should I just rebuild back to stock trans? or anything special I should get done as far as mods if there is any? I have intake, programmer, exhaust, 3.73s, and about to put headers and then in future a cam.

Doesn't sound good, but I would start with the easy stuff first. Doublecheck to make sure you are full on fluid and that there are no Diagnostic Trouble Codes stored in the PCM.

Do as Tripp suggests. If all seems well, then I would venture to say you have a burnt/failing 2nd gear band. If it's burnt, the tranny fluid will have an obvious burnt smell.

yeah i agree with them too. change the fillter while you are at. becarefull pulling the pan though. that is the reason that i have a rebuilt tranny now i hit those soleniods in there on accident and burnt the tranny up on the test drive. my brand new tranny is showing signs of slipping under a load now too. 2/24 warenty here i come

this would be my guess too. When you have it rebuilt check into a transgo shift kit and a corvette servo. The servo will firm up your 1-2 shift and keep the band from slipping so much. how big of a cam are you gonna go to?

If your dropping the pan for inspection make sure you pull off the 1-2 accumulator housing located behind the pressure control solenoid and inspect for a cracked piston (Very Common) that's one the common causes that leads to band failure which sounds like your problem. Just make sure when you rebuild your trans to update that plastic piston to the aluminum style. If you need help with a trans build you can contact us at the shop Monday. We have our 15% off on all transmissions going on until the end of this month.
