Default trans guage temp

What should my trans guage be reading for temps. I just put the guage in and was wondering what was normal after driving. It is a 2004 extended cab 4.8 with a wheatley tune. The truck also does not have a tranny cooler.

Anywhere between 130 and about 210 and you're doing just fine. I'd be a little uncomfortable over 210, and I'd probably start to get really worried over 230.

The highest I ever saw my trans temp get to is 180*and that was during the middle of summer in traffic. I have a factory tranny cooler too.

I like to keep mine <180

I got a stall and two coolers in series, it stays pretty cool in the winter time, but just right in the summer IMO...

I put mine in the pressure port on the driver's side of the trans. FWIW, My 4L60E always ran between 150 and 180, but my 4L80E always runs right around 200 for whatever reason. I even had two coolers with fans.

Thanks for the replies. On the cold days and nights, I was only seeing 150-160. Today it was a bit warmer outside and I drove it on the interstate for about 25miles and some city driving, and it was at 180-190. I don't have a tranny cooler, so I quess I would run a little warmer than the ones with it.
