ok let me start by what i have and what i have done to the truck. ive got a 99silverad RCSB, 4.8L, it has nelson tuning, elec fans, 160 thermo, 2001 fbody cam, asp pulley, shorty headers, no cats, magnaflow muffler, 373 gears w/ g80, volant cai, ported tb, tb bypass, trans go shift kit. corvette servo, kit was set up with 2 spacers. and i have the metal accumlator, in place of theplastic one.
well im away in afghanistan, and my truck is acting up. the tranny fluid is full and its not burnt. i change it ever 6 months. but my uncle says when you put the truck in gear, if you put it in drive it will take off. but like it doesnt have 1st or 2nd gear. it never shifts. and if you put the truck in 1st or 2nd gear its like it has a trans brake. it wont go anywhere.
so do you guys have any clue what it might be. a friend of my uncles says it could be the 1-2 shift solenoid. the trucj does not and has not popped any kind of code.
just wondering. should i got buy a new tranny or try and fix this one. thnaks for the help. larry

 

Do a search on here, but a shift solenoid or electrical part comes to mind...I recall others with this issue. I am no trans expert but I know I've read about your problem before. Also, are there any codes? Even if the SES light isn't lit there may be a code in there. Good luck and come home safe.

ill get my buiddy to go scan the truck as soon as i can.
but no ses is popped. ill have him scan it anyway.

ive looked and no one has the same problem yet. so maybe ill find it in a little while.

 

Larry, Sounds like the trans is in limp mode which would cause a third gear start, ( sounds like your situation here ). One of the most common causes with your year truck is a faulty ignition switch that won't send voltage to the trans. Sometimes it doesn't set the SES lite either, but it's always a good idea to scan for codes just for a primary check. If he doesn't come up with any codes or he comes up with all the trans codes, then tell him to put a test lite or volt meter across the trans fuse while turning the ignition switch to the run postion and watch the test lite or volt meter to show constant battery voltage. This is a good check to make especially if this problem is intermittent.

Note to performabuilt...With the 4l60e hd-2 kit it will lock the output shaft in manual low. I don't know about it locking in second because I haven't been able to confirm this but as far as first gear I know this for fact! Vince

 

I got my uncle checking it. i just got in touch with him yesterday. he had a big race to go to. so he will check it out this week. and ill let you know asap. thank you very much for the replies.
also my uncle said that 1 and 2 the truck just wouldnt move? kind of like it had a trans brake. he said it doesnt slip or anything. it drives fine its just in third.

 

Maybe the sprag welded itself solid?
