Auto 4wd is a BAD idea, the rear has to slip for the front to engage thus giving you a hell of ride when all four start chirping, ask me how I know

The best luck I had when running around 400rwhp was launching in 4hi and as soon as I was moving hit the 2wd button, when it would upshift into 2nd 4wd would disengage. Once I dropped the 418 in the truck it wouldnt shift out, the lights would just keep blinking.

For what its worth, I think its hit or miss on shifting out of 4wd, what causes that I havent a clue, maybe a worn actuator? The newer trucks seem to be able to shift out while the older trucks dont.

Im moving this to the GM Drivetrain section might get some more insight there as not everyone with high HP is running FI

I always shift out of 4wd after the 1-2 upshift. It blinks for a second or so and then it lights up 2wd. I think its shifting back into 2wd because if I take it out too early it starts spinning the tires.

You guys say push the button. What if you don't have a button to push only the floor shift?
