If the converter is not seated properly it only takes a bump of the starter to bust the front pump up. Ask lm7 about it.

Ok, decided against the plasma and the trans wouldn't come out very easy with that last tq converter bolt in so Dad decided he wanted a go at it with the air chisel. We took the starter down outta the way to get more room to work. Here are the results. If the picture is not work safe let me know.

Didn't want to see that post, my converter came unseated when I had to mess with the tranny to get it on right and the pump cracked. It didn't even take a starter in my case, just a few turns of the wrench before I could realize the converter had shifted! Now I guess all I can do is wait for Joe to respond and hopefully we can get this fixed. I am sooo ready to be done with this, and next time I'm going to be POSITIVE that the converter is seated right before I even think about putting a bolt in it! BTW, that is exactly how my bolts looked. I swear if its not one thing its another with me lately.

Okay I'm soon to install a converter. What is the definative way to determine the converter is seated and how do you keep it there?

when you slide it in... it should spline in 2 times. the second time it splines with the inner shaft, make sure it doesnt slam to hard inside the bell housing. because if it does, there is a chance you **** up the pump on the other side of the cover. just rotate until you feel it give.

What he said, just don't let the converter become unseated. I just got off the phone with Joe at JAG and he said to put a bolt in the converter once it is seated and put a wrench over it to hold the converter back until you have the tranny lined up. Hopefully after I get the new pump in I won't have the same problem putting it in, I am going to make SURE that the converter is completely seated the entire time!

Sorry to hear that, but evidently it's pretty easy to do with the 60e's. Getting it fixed shouldn't be that expenssive, and it shouldn't take long.

Yeah, it didn't take much to crack that thing! I just got off the phone with Joe and he is going to build me another pump from my stock one and ship it out tomorrow. Really great guy and amazing customer service!!!
