Yeah, that does make sense. I'm just thinking about the guys with half tons that have problems with their bars sagging over time and the weight you have in the front end. You should be good to go with the next size down, but I wouldn't go much further than that. Damn Grippy, you got me thinking on this one; I wish I knew torsion bar suspensions a little better

Not that I have any experience in this area but if it was me I'd probably lean torward the 5900lbers. That is just from looking at the options range they offer vs what you have. I know a z71 ecsb rides much smoother than my truck. It is the shocks on mine that firm it up so much. I'd imagine they put those heavy *** torsion bars in them for people that actually use 5th wheels on them and load the front axle.

When I get my truck back I'll check out the code on the bars. Should be tomorrow (Thursday) hopefully.

why do you want to do this? Just go to an air bag suspension.

I don't see how changing the torsion bars would work properly, simply because you would have no idea at what height you would end up. Turning the stock bars incrementally changes ride height considerably (unfortunately those two are intertwined), so I could see a different set of bars dramatically lowering or otherwise changing ride height to a point where the result would be undesirable - perhaps even humorous.

Have you been to Full Size Chevy or GM Full Size and asked there? Those are the suspension guys....if it's been done, they've likely done it.

I don't believe the bars would change the front height drastically. It would basically change the spring rate.

Correct, the ride height is changed more by the "porkchop", the torsion bar keys, and the adjustment bolt more than it is the spring.

I want to go to heavier bars, but will still keep the low ride height of my lowered SS (plus I will be adding heavier sways and end links). I like the fact that you posted the part numbers and rates!
