Alright I have some time off and wanted to get to my torque converter but I have some questions, ive swaped converters before but I was able to take the inspection cover off to get the bolts out of the flexplate, how do you do it on the 4l60e? And my other question is how much fluid do you add to the converter before you install it into the trans? Thanks

 

By removing the starter? I have never removed the newer 60e's.

Most converters won't take much fluid at a time. I add a little go do something else then add more. I think some of the little 8" converts I run took a little less than a quart.

 

Correcto, remove starter and roll flywheel to remove bolts through the starter area. The converter will hold in between .5 and 1 qt depending on its size.

 

The converter will get totally filled when you start up. The transmission will pump fluid into the converter. So don't worry about getting it totally full. But I do suggest getting about a quart in it so it is not dry on start up. Make sure it is lubricated. You also want to make sure you have the trans pan full before startup, so it has some fluid to pump into the converter.
