Default Torque Converter - should it be inspected before installing new tranny?

The transmission failed, but the torque converter seems to be acting normal - a suggestion was made to send it off to Yank and have it inspected before installing it on the replacement tranny. Is that really necessary?

It never was slipping or showing any signs of failure up until the rearend locked up/failed. After I got the new gear set installed, the truck would try to take off in first but then let loose like you slid it into neutral. Now it only has 2nd and reverse, all the other gears do nothing. It's only been driven 5 or 6 miles since the gears were replaced.

If that converter has something in it which you dont know till its to late. I would have it checked, its not worth wrecking a new trans. Have it check just for a piece of mine IMO.

yes, especially after driving it the miles you did after it broke. the pump can recirculate debris back into the torque converter.

I hate...HATE what I'm hearing...but I would also hate to damage the tranny just out of stupidity.

For the record, Vince at FLT advised to have the TC checked out as well.

I think I'm just going to drink now.....a lot.....a whole lot....

better to be safe than sorry and do it right the first time.

are you getting the tranny rebuilt or buying a new one?
