Bought a 2006 sierra 4x4 low miles for a good price that has a rebuilt title from 4 years 40,000miles ago. I know I shouldn'thave done it but needed a truck badly. Checked ooutthe tentire truck no leaks or rattles everything works great. The one thing I noticed way the intermediateshaft needed to be replaced. No bIG deal right? TheniI realize something is wrong.
The entire steering gearbox is wrong. The I shaft should have a male end and this one has a grooved female like on the older trucks Ibelieve.
Can anyone give some insight as to what year this is from? Should I just get a new gear box and shaft or what?

Im not quite sure what your asking, but everything looks normal to me besides the obvious hose clamps which aren't factory and hard line rubbing the steering box..? bottom of the intermediate shaft is a D shape clamp to the steering box input..

If you Google 2006 sierra intermediate shaft the end that connects to the syeerig gearbox is a male end. This is a female end.
This steering gear box is wrong. Look at that bolt coming off of the frame through the gear box, there is not room to even put on a nut so it must be wrong.

that looks to be the upper I shaft. not the lower. that one goes from the steering column to the other I shaft.

Here is a link that shows you both shafts.

Like I said, the part is correct. Also, the steering gearbox is tapped, no nut required.
You're worrying over a problem than isn't, therefore, you must be wrong.

It's a Saginaw box, every Chevy with a steering box has one. They are sloppy, leaky and heavy, but they work. (most of the time)
