I just installed one on a 4l80e and it did not use one. There are finger like supports on the bottom of the pan that keep the filter in place.

I have the same one for my 4L60e, and I used the "short" filter. The stock one that I have on my 02 was too long, so I got the shorter one for an s-10 (more shallow pan) and it worked great. The pan has some fingers/stands for the filter to "sit" on. If your filter is too long, it bottoms out before you can bolt it on. It's pretty obvious if it works or not.

yes you may, go back and buy the other one too . . . you can aways take them back if need be.

I could be wrong, they may have updated it since then.

same year that you currently have, they'll list or it'll "call" for both filters. There's a plastic "o-ring" that's on the inside of your tranny. You do not have to replace it. It's more work to get it out then to just leave it alone. They're the same size also.

You do not have to put RTV on the gasket if you don't want to, I didn't, and there were no leaks.
