Default tci 6x SIX-SPEED

I was wanting to get this transmission because a six-speed would be awsome, but with the 4l80e drivetrain loss would it be worth it? I figured TWO EXTRA gears would more that make up for the loss. Also do I have to get a retune? How much drivetrain loss % is there with a 60e and 80e? Two other things, yes I know it's not cheap and no I won't be getting any other mods before or after the swap (not right now anyway).

Yeah, I did a search and a lot of people were saying that, how can it eat up SEVENTY FIVE hp? That's rediculous.

It's mostly just misinformed people with no real hard data. That 75 hp was a joke BTW, but an often quoted number if you do a search on here. Based on my data logging and impressions, I'm giving up around 15 rwhp to a 4l60e with the 4l80e. That is very reasonable for the strength and precise shifts you get in return. The downside to the 80 is the taller first gear and about 30lbs more weight over the 4l60e. If staying naturally aspirated, the 80e needs a big stall to get out of the hole at the track.

I knew you were joking, I just coudn't believe some people were saying it's a 75 hp loss. BTW, we are talking about a 6L80e (basically), not a 4l80e so first gear shouldn't be a problem I would think. I was just wondering if it would be worth the swap just for the 2 extra gears.

Verify the retune part. Trans tuning is done thru their TCU. How your PCM relates to that, I'm unsure of. I couldn't imagine getting any mods before or after this, for a long time.

I was so excited when I 1st heard of this product. I said it's a hotrodders' dream. Retro 6 spd. But, in a 4 spd case. Then I found out price. $$$

I realized I needed another option.

Would it be worth the swap for 2 extra gears? I say, will u gain enuff performance & mileage to offset added cost? The difference between a built, ***** out 4L80E & this needs to go into equation.

Decide if u would want a stall. Add that to your 4L80E cost.

Now weigh cost of stall & built 4L80E to this 6spd's better gearing for performance, mileage, & cost. How much cost do u think separates the 2 at this point in the analogy?

I'm not tryin to on your parade, weigh it out.

Julien, TCI reworks a 80E, they manage to put 2 more gears inside a 4L80E case. Claim it's good for up to 850 HP.
