Default switch from AWD to Auto-Trac?

Is it possible? I know the front differential is different than the typical 4WD front diff, can I expect any issues with the front diff by switching to a transfer case that puts more power to the front? Would there be any driveshaft length differences?

Anyone interested in swapping your Auto Trac and wiring for my AWD Tcase?

Hmmm, I've thought about going AWD, but you wouldn't want my front diff anyway as it's shot, and it's a 3.73 and I'm pretty sure that you're a 4.10. I think that you'll need a front diff, driveshaft, and transfer case. Not sure about the wiring and PCM/BCM tuning that's necessary.

*EDIT* You might want to send a PM to 4.8T, as I believe that he did the swap from AutoTrak to AWD...

does it entail a full differential swap, or can't we just swap out transfer cases? That would be a lot easier.

Not sure, but I *think* that something is different about the front axle housing...although I could be wrong. As I mentioned, 4.8T should know...

Front diffs are different. Ive had both in my garage, AWD diff doesnt have the plunger to engage the front diff.

Correct! Also, I don't think the AWD uses the same TCCM as the Auto-trac. Actually, I'm not sure if the AWD uses a TCCM at all. I'm pretty sure you're gonna need to deal with some harness swaps. Shouldn't be too bad if you have access to a donor vehicle.

Its easier going 4wd to awd. You're going to have to swap front diffs for sure cz the awd front diff doesnt disengage.

Ill trade you my autotrac xfer case, front axle, front drive shaft, and the pushbuttons in the cab for your awd nv-149 xfer case, front axle, front drive shaft and the cubbyhole in your dash, all you would need is the wiring harness. i've been wanting to go awd as long as i have had this truck.

I went from AWD to 4x4. its going to take a lot more than just switching the diffs out. Driveshafts both front and back need to be changed, new transfer case, rewiring the harness to accept the new diff, adding the transfer case module and all the associated wiring, etc. I wish it would have been as simple as just swaping diffs.
