Default Sun gear 4l80e

Are these grooves normal? I have 2 4l80e's and both sun gears look the same. These grooves strikes me as . If you look at the pic, the grooves don't look like they were originally machined there due to the roughness. If this groove isn't normal, can the sun gear be replaced by itself or do the Direct clutch housing (623) reaction carrier assembly (651) planetaries also have to be replaced?

Help me out here are we talking about the two ID groves or the wear in the rear part of the gear or just the finish of the gear itself?

I believe he is talking about the 2 I.D. groves in the center of each section.

I believe it is ok for the 2005 model he has even though it's not shown on page 109 in the ATSG manual.

The first one is from a 1995 I took apart. He is afraid it should look like that

The Second image came from a 2005 assembly with the blue fabric, I stole from ebay.
