Knock on wood, John (mangledGMC), is running a boosted 6.0 as a DD with a PBlvl2 and hasn't had any problems yet that I know of with it. There's no doubt in my mind that the heat/power is what killed it. These 60e's don't like high temps. My 40k cooler with regular driving last night (lots of hills) kept my trans at about 100*, with ambient temp at 14*.
Hold on there... not so fast.... we all agree that heat is the number one killer of automatic transmission, it always been that way and always will be. But, in the case of the OP there may be more to it than that.

In other words, if the transmission was removed some 500 miles ago and freshened up by PB, I am curious to know why it needed freshened up in the first place. Meaning, was it wounded and needed repair or was it preventative and was running okay but had seen lots of hard hits?

Point is, there could be an obstruction in the cooler lines, the converter clutch could be slipping, there could be debris in the output shaft that was missed during the rebuild that kept it from lubricating properly, the could have been a slipping forward clutch that would generate heat and so on.... meaning it's important at this point that a very detailed inspection of the transmission and it's cooling system needs to take place.

Good luck to the OP, sorry about your bad luck buddy.

I think the sun shell let go. There is no reverse, or od. I don't think it has second either. Last Sunday the caliper had a bolt back out and locked the tires up cruising in town. I think this might have had something to do with it. Any thoughts??

The caliper issue could have caused the tranny failure if it was a significant shock to the driveleine I suppose.

I agree, I have seen a few people get wheel hop, or break/lock up their axles and cause transmission issues, but really the shell shouldn't break, the beast sunshell is thought of as unbreakable.. I have seen many forward sprags break during a rear end failure/issue

But yeah, the shell controls/allows 2nd/4th/reverse.
