Default Steering Shaft Replacement ?

I'm going to replace my steering shaft with the new version, but on AllData it says to remove the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor before completely removing the old shaft. Is this necessary?

I had to remove my pedal assembly(2 nuts) to get enough room to pull the shaft into the truck. But I have the power adjustable pedals. Quick and easy with a 1/4" drive, extension, u-joint and 10mm socket IIRC.
