Default Stall for my 80e?

hey whats up guys. this is my first trans/engine build project. its a cammed 5.3/4l80e going into my s10 ext cab. im running a 228r Comp cam. i got the 80e out of a 95 van from craiglist for $100. pulled the pan and everything looked really clean. supposedly it only has 90,000 on the clock, anybody think i should have a problem just throwing it in, i plan on a filter change and a pan swap( GM drain plug pan). the think im confused about is that im definitely on a budget but i need some opinions on a stall/ torque converter. its going to be a daily driver and im trying to keep costs to a minimal.

I would put atleast a 2800 converter in there with that cam selection. A decent converter for a 80 is going to cost anywhere from 800 up.

I just got a 3600RPM 4L80E Vigilante triple disc for ~$750. New too.

I've been driving around a 2200RPM Vigilante for a long time now and it's simply not big enough with the itsy bitsy cam I have now.

We have our 278mm HP series that is budget friendly 4L80 converter. For a 228 cam on a 5.3 I would typically suggest our 258mm or 245mm Pro Series, but if it is more of a street toy and not much track the 278mm 3000-3200 will work well.

chris, what would you recommend for a 5.3 with a 228r? i think i want to go at a minimum 3600 stall or higher. hows your 245mm Pro stage 1 converter? this is a DD but I still want to kick *** if need be lol.

If you just wanna something to get by with for now you can get a Stock 4L80E torque converter for $110.
I got my last one from What Ever It Takes Transmission for $107 after tax and returned core. Works great. and i can brake stall it to about 2900 with the turbo

Its heavy tho

Shoot me an Ask Chris or give me a call and we can go over your options. Bt a 245mm 3600 with a 228 will work very well, but is on the aggressive side.

I'm going to be the guinea pig trying one of Jeg's converters. Not a bad deal at $700, unless they're complete crap. And if they are, i'll be sure to let everyone know...

Edge makes some affordable converters. I had him spec me one for a cam only, nitrous 6.0. He said he could build one for $585 that would out live me.
