Default Spitting Oil

Where would a transmission lose fluid from?

I was driving down the road yesterday and lost overdrive. Then a bunch of smoke started pouring out and it did not want to move easily. This morning I put a couple quarts in and drove into the garage to take a look. Everything is covered in fluid, but I can't find where it came from.

Is there a gasket or something this could be coming from, or perhaps a particular area these crack at?

It might have gotten hot and blew it out of the vent tube, or maybe one of the lines on the passanger side.

I found it. A small piece around the servo cover cracked. Lame. I installed a vette servo a year and a half ago, but I assume it has something to do with that.

A 3/4 inch piece cracked off and the cover doesn't seat anymore. Is there a way to weld this back on, or do I need a new trans?

was it a piece of the servo cover or the actual tranny case??? I know a mis-installed servo retaining ring will eventually work its way out and can damage the case on its way out..if thats the case, its time for a new tranny plus the core charge for your unusable tranny

It's the case. I followed all the write-ups and read the cautionary tales about installing the servo correctly, and it was fine for a year and a half. It's possible I did something incorrectly, but I'm chalking this one up to a cheap trans. The servo cover is still seated correctly, which is what gave me trouble finding where the leak from. I only noticed it when I bumped the cover and the little piece broke off fully.

I already have a parts truck in the driveway, so that trans will find it's way in tomorrow.
